PPA14 ~ In the Pink

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and the Pals Paper Arts posted this great challenge: to use the color PINK! So many people are effected by this disease and I too have wonderful women in my life who have battled breast cancer, including my grandma Edie and my aunt Sherill. Pink is one of my grandma's favorite colors to wear and she likes to create these crazy color combinations with pink - ones I wouldn't neccessarily think of! When I was about 6, I remember her telling me I should start wearing pink and red together and I thought it was absolutely nuts! I didn't think those two colors went together at all - but now I think they do! Stay tuned next week when I post a project honoring my grandma Edie and her love for Pink with Red! For the PPA challenge, I stuck with one of MY favorite pink combinations: Pink and Brown! I ran a piece of Pretty in Pink cardstock through my Big Shot using the Top Note die, then ran that piece through the Big Shot with the Manhattan Flower embossing flower to create the rose impression for the background (my grandma loves roses too)! The letters of the word 'HOPE' comes from the Billboard alphabet die which I cut out of Chocolate Chip cardstock! Then I 'tied' a piece of Whisper White grosgrain ribbon to create the ribbon of hope! Stampin' Up! also has a great stamp of this called, Ribbon of Hope (115552) on page 208 for only $7.95!
Today is October 31st! I've been reading through the book of Psalms and read in Psalm 31 today ~ there was a great verse that I wanted to share about Hope! The Lord is so great that way! Psalm 31:24 'Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who HOPE in the Lord.' May you be blessed today!

Simple Card ~ Birthday Celebrations

I needed a quick birthday card for a friend and thought this was a great, simple layout! I started with Bermuda Bay textured cardstock, stamped circles from the Circle Circus set (pg. 129) randomly throughout the center of the card. I like to 'stamp off' the page so that the images look like they are flowing on and off the page! Then I cut out the large Certainly Celery flower with my Big Shot and layered a chipboard circle, and Rich Razzleberry circle in the center of the flower - then adhered it all to the card! The trick to getting the Rhinestone brad through the center of flower (yes, I added the brad last) was the Paper-Piercing tool! It went through, yes (4) sheets of cardstock AND a piece of chipboard! Pretty amazing! Then I wrapped a piece of Whisper White Grosgrain ribbon around the bottom edge (for some color) and adhered it with a Silver Brad. The stamping on the card was all done with Bermuda Bay ink for a tone-on-tone look. You can also achieve this look with the VersaMark Pad (pg. 190) if you're wanting your ink color to match your cardstock color!

MOJO110, Give Thanks

Leaves, leaves, leaves!! Today was a great day of raking leaves, yard work, and of course MOJO Monday sketch! I just had to incorporate the wonderful Autumn Traditions DSP (pg. 160) in another card since I love it so much! Square cards are SO great to work with since it feels like I can add so much more to it than just the standard size card! The double-sided paper works wonderfully for layering since it all coordinates and works together! So this is what I came up with based on the the sketch below:
The finished size is 5-1/4" square and will fit perfectly in the Stampin' Up! Medium Whisper White Envelopes (107289). They come in a pack of {20} for only $6.50!

Simple Card: {GRATEFUL}

This was a quick an easy {GRATEFUL} card that works nicely as a 'Thank You' card or to send as a Thanksgiving card! The Stampin' Up! Bright Blessings Jumbo Wheel (which was used on the bottom of my card) was inked up in Soft Suede ink, then rolled on the bottom of my card! Since the new In Colors do not have ink cartridges for the jumbo wheels, all you need to do is roll the wheel (several times to cover it in ink) in your ink pad, then roll it onto your cardstock! It works great!

To Thine Own Self Be Kind.

So I challenged myself to use the Stampin' Up! set 'Bird on a Branch' (pg. 105) with the color combination of: Real Red, Bashful Blue, and Whisper White ~ here's what I came up with! I first punched the bottom of the card base with the Eyelet Border punch, and then layered a piece of Whisper White cardstock behind it. Then added a row of red and blue buttons! Basic Gray worked wonderfully as the color choice for the branch since it coordinated with the other two colors! I stamped the branch first in Basic Gray Classic Ink, then the blossoms in Real Red Classic Ink. Tip: My Stamp-a-ma-jig was a great tool for lining up the branch with the blossoms on top! I stamped the sentiment from the Botanical Blooms SAB set in Basic Gray ink on Whisper White cardstock and punched it out with the Curly Label punch. Then I cut the punched out piece in half, adhered it off to the side the card base, and added a clip with ribbon! Onto my birdie...I used the Birds & Branches die-cut to for the bird and adhered him with Stampin' Dimensionals! The finishing touches were to pierce a corner border in the top right-hand corner with my Paper-Piercing tool and then to ink all the edges with Bashful Blue ink! Viola!

Stamps: Bird on a Branch (113266), Botanical Blooms (SAB ~ 2009)
Ink: Basic Gray (109120), Real Red (103133), Bashful Blue (105209)

PPA13 - darling baby frame

The Pals Paper Arts posted a wonderful challenge: anything BUT a card ~ PPA13! So, I made this decorative frame for a wonderful friend of mine who is expecting a baby boy this winter! This cute frame is for the baby's nursery and hopefully will sit on top of his dresser or something!
This 5" x 7" frame was originally unfinished, so I started off by painting it white (I just used leftover interior, white paint that I had around the house)! Then I trimmed a piece of brown Stampin' Up! Spring Showers DSP to 5" x 7", cut some Pool Party DSP in 2-3/4" x 3" pieces, inked the edges in Chocolate Chip ink, then layered on top of the brown paper. Then came the fun part! I used a blue, Archival safe, non-toxic Acrylic Scrapbooking paint on the chipboard letters (these dried super quick). Then added the finishing touches with ribbon and metal embellishements! I punched out the green tab from an extra paint chip I had around the house, then added a 'darling' sticker to the tab and set with brads! Tip: To wrap the ribbon around the frame, I took the glass out, then wrapped the ribbon around the edge (but didn't tie it yet) letting it lay flat, then placed the glass back in and my decorative baby insert, then tied the ribbon tight!

Thinking of You - OCCC

Love the Color Challenge Posted by the Our Creative Corner Stampers! The challenge was to create a project using the Stampin' Up! colors: Handsome Hunter, Blush Blossom, Sage Shadow, and Soft Suede! This was a wonderful challenge for me since I rarely stamp with Blush Blossom, and I do like how it looks layered on top of the Handsome Hunter card base! The Trendy Trees stamp set (pg. 112) is such a cute 2-Step Stampin' set! I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig (pg. 191) to get perfect placement for the trees! The Elegant Bouquet Textured Impressions Embossing folder (pg. 195) is quickly becoming my favorite tool for creating embossed backgrounds!

Music Expressions

Music Expressions (pg. 125) is such a beautiful stamp set, it makes me want to go to the symphony of something!! I've been meaning to play around with it but haven't had a chance to yet, so last night I sat down to create something with this set! The stamp is so great just by itself, that I didn't color it in with markers or watercolor it, I just stamped it in Soft Suede Ink, inked the edges, and matted it on Soft Suede cardstock! Tried to keep it simple! The card base is Sahara Sand cut to 5" x 10", scored and folded in half. Then I trimmed out a 4-3/4" square piece of the Autumn Traditions paper and adhered that to the card base. Wrapped some Soft Suede 1/2" Polka-Dot ribbon around the side and tied Very Vanilla Grosgrain ribbon & Linen Thread around the Soft Suede piece.

Here's the list of Stampin' Up! Supplies used:
Stamps: Music Expressions (113718)
Ink: Soft Suede (115657)
Paper: Autumn Traditions (115668)
Cardstock: Sahara Sand (105328), Very Vanilla (101650), Soft Suede (115318)

merry - MOJO109

It's MOJO Monday! Yipee! This is such a great sketch posted on the MOJO Monday blog, I immediately thought of Christmas and went straight for my goodies from the SU Holiday Mini Catalog! I busted out my Big Shot and played with the NEW dies featured on page 21! One of my favorite Christmas color combinations is: Garden Green, Certainly Celery and Real Red, so I incorporated that into my card as well!
The Merry Embosslits folder (116820) makes the cutest little tags! The colors look so much better in person, but the Certainly Celery die-cut trees from the Merry Details die (116823) really 'pop' when they are layered on top of the Garden Green tag!

Happy Birthday Princess ~ PPA12

Ready for some birthday bling!?! The Pals Paper Arts posted this amazing sketch (PPA12) on their blog and I'm so excited that I get to play along! I love sketches simply because they are the best place to start and help me in the design process for my cards and projects! My Princess Time set and Party Kit were the first things I grabbed because the crown is too cute and needed to be front and center, which works perfectly with the circle focal point of the sketch. I had fun playing with these new Stampin' Up! Products! The Princess Time Stamp set (116720) and the Princess Party Kit (116214) are featured in the SU Idea Book & Catalog on page 75 and 174. These two products work wonderfully for all things girly, especially birthdays and parties!

The Rhinestone brads poked through on the inside of my card, so I simply covered them up with some leftover die-cuts from the Party Kit! Added a scallop edge on the right side too and layered a thin strip of yellow on top! Dressing up the insides of cards is a great way too keep the fun flowing from the card front!

The finishing touch was to dress-up my Whisper White envelope! To do this, cut a piece of paper or cardstock to approximately 6-1/2" long x 3" wide. Adhere with strong adhesive to the flap, then trim away the excess paper! I prefer to use my paper snips since they get such a close, clean cut! This green paper and pink scallop is leftover goodies from the Princess Party Kit!

I was so thrilled when the Color Throwdown crew posted this awesome color challenge using my favorite color combination of all time: Baja Breeze, Basic Black, and Sahara Sand! My home's interior paint colors, decorations, and even my wardrobe are primarily in these three wonderful colors! This will be my first time playing along with this great group of stampers, and I'm looking foward to participating in more of their upcoming challenges! Sadly, Baja Breeze retired from the Stampin' Up! Spring-Summer 2009 Idea Book & Catalog, but it is still one of my favorite colors and I do hope they bring it back some day! If you've been reading my blog the past few days, you can see that I'm totally in love with the Cottage Wall DSP (pg. 160). The color combination of: Old Olive, Orchid Opulence, and Rich Razzleberry are so beautiful and have inspired many of my creations lately! My Big Shot (pg. 194) is one of my favorite investments I've made! It's so versatile - I used it to cut out the leaves and butterfly - plus I added texture to the butterfly with the Texturz Plates (pg. 195). Time to Celebrate!

It's time to CELEBRATE! One of my favorite color combinations is Crushed Curry and Basic Gray! How fun is that!?! Designer series paper always makes for a really great background for any card, but do you recognize where this paper is featured? On the cover of the Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog!! The paper pack is called Razzleberry Lemonade (pg. 162). Stampin' Write Markers make adding a bit of color to any stamped image a total breeze! This year, Stampin' Up! introduced the Stampin' Write Markers in the NEW InColors (pg. 155)! I used the Crushed Curry Marker to add a hint of color to this very versatile stamp from the Chic Boutique set (pg. 63). This card would work wonderfully to send for a birthday, wedding, bridal shower, bachelorette party, or engagement event!

Stamps: Chic Boutique (113744)
Ink: Basic Gray (109120)* this ink is waterproof and doesn't smudge when markers are used to add color to certain parts!
Cardstock: Basic Gray (108692), Basic Black (102851), Whisper White (100730)

Stampin' Up! Monogram "K" Stationery

"K" for Kari! Made this fun Monogram Stationery at my last Stampin' Up! Demonstrator group meeting hosted by my fabulous upline, Barb Brimhall! Love the personalized look and feel PLUS the Thoroughly Modern File Folders (pg. 169) are a great addition to the Stampin' Up! product offerings! These are NEW and contain a collection of great colors and a few from the new 2009-2010 In Colors: Bermuda Bay, Soft Suede, Sahara Sand, and Rose Red! Package includes {12} folders: 3 each of 4 designs! Fun tip: You can also use these beautiful file folders in your stamp studio to organize papers, documents, or even scraps!
Here are the directions for how I made this:
1)
Cut the width of a File Folder down to 6" and then cut off bottom hangover edge of folder so that the bottom edges are flush. Score across fold at 8-1/2"
2) Place your folder on your Stampin Grid Paper (pg. 191) so that the 12" side is along the ruler. At the bottom of the folder, measure over 3/8" from the middle score line (6" on the 12" side), and place a mark. Cut from this mark to the middle score line to create a "V" so that when flaps are folded up, they will lie flat with no bluckling.
3) Fold up the bottom pieces and attach with sticky strip. Be sure to create a "pocket" on the left hand side by adhereing adhesive only to the side edges.
4) Attach ribbon (pg. 182) to the back of the Jr. Legal pad with sticky strip. Tip: Don't make the ribbon too tight or the pen will not lay flat.
5) Attach a pre-cut coordinating strip of Thoroughly Modern DSP over the top of the Legal pad to hide the brand logo and slide notebook inside pocket on the right hand side.
6) Adhere Monogram letter (cut out of excess file folder pieces using the Big Shot) to the front of the folder Stampin' Up! Supplies used:File Folder: Thoroughly Modern (115692)
Paper: Thoroughly Modern DSP (115673)
Ribbon: Melon Mambo 1/2" Polka-Dot Grosgrain (115611)

HAPPY Halloween

It's Tuesday - so how about a fun Technique!?! I love learning new tricks for my punches and this one I learned about in my November issue of Creating Keepsakes (pg. 35). Useing my 1-1/4" square punch, I punched out several pieces of Autumn Traditions Designer Series Paper. Then I used my corner rounder punch to round the corners of opposite sides of the square, creating a fun background on my card! It's MOJO Monday! I was inspired by the MOJO Monday sketch to create this card! The sentiment is from the Stampin' Up! Chit Chat rub-ons (pg. 177) - so I didn't use any stamps or ink on this card!!! How fun! The Chit Chat rub-ons are a great deal! For $10.95 you get over 180 sentiments in Whisper White and Chocolate Chip! I used the Whisper White 'Friends Forever' on this card!

MERRY CHRISTMAS ~ PPA11

A little twist on the traditional Christmas colors! This card uses the Cottage Wall DSP (pg. 160) with the great color combination of: Old Olive, Orchid Opulence, and Rich Razzleberry - plus, I added Certainly Celery for a monochromatic look & feel!

The Teeny Tiny Wishes set (pg. 145) contains 24 fabulous sentiments for every occasion, so I was sure to find one that would work for this card! I love the row of dots under Merry Christmas, it's a very clean and simple look - which I love!

Stampin' Up! new personalized stamps (pg. 136-137) make adding my own signature even more fun! I purchased the Flourish stamp, which I think has a beautiful professional look to it! Please email me if you have questions on how to order your own personalized stamp! I'd love to help!

Stamps: Teeny Tiny Wishes (115370), Gratuitous Graffiti (111636), Flourish personalized stamp (115600)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HUMAN

Awhile back, Shelli Gardner (Stampin' Up!'s Cofounder & CEO) announced a challege on her blog, http://www.soshelli.com to create a project with SIP {Stamps, Ink, and Paper ~ only)! How hard is that for me when I LOVE ribbon, brads, buttons, clips, hardware and all that fun stuff!?! Well I recently made a card at my friend, Summer Stone's (she's a Stampin' Up! Artisan Award Winner) house that was just that - Stamps, Ink, and Paper! Well, maybe we did use a punch or two! Thought I'd share it with you all and hope that it inspires you!

Stamps: Lots of Bots (115293) pg. 82
Ink: Basic Black (101179), Going Gray (103274), Bashful Blue (105209), Bordering Blue (102265), More Mustard (103162)
Cardstock: Bashful Blue (105120), More Mustard (100946), Taken with Teal (101584), Watercolor paper (105019)
Punches: Eyelet Border (113692), 1" Circle (109046)
Essentials: Blender Pens (102845), Stampin' Dimensionals (104430)
Cool tip: Using the Eyelet Border punch, I punched the edge of the More Mustard Cardstock. Then added a layer of Taken With Teal cardstock - revealing just the dots of the Eyelet Border and hiding the scallop portion of that edge!
Finished Size: 4-1/4" x 5-1/2"

{24-7} Card ~ PPA11

One of my favorite Stampin' Up! stamp sets is the Friends 24-7 set (pg. 100).
The colors in the Cottage Wall DSP (pg. 160) inspired me to play along in the PPA challenge! The card base is Sahara Sand cardstock (pg. 155) cut to 5" x 10", scored and folded in half! I used the Paper-Piercing tool (pg. 191) and template to punch holes along the top left of the white cardstock, then used Linen thread to sew through the holes! Since I didn't have an Old Olive Stampin' Write Marker, I used my blender pens (pg. 192) and pooled some Old Olive ink on the lid of my ink pad. Then colored in the leaves on the branch to add some color to the bird on the branch! I also inked the edges of the white piece of cardstock with Chocolate Chip ink to give it a distressed look!
Stamps: Friends 24-7 (113218)
Ink: Chocolate Chip (100908), Old Olive (102277)
Cardstock: Sahara Sand (105328), Whisper White (100730)
Paper: Cottage Wall (115671)
Ribbon: 5/8" Whisper White Satin (114616), Orchard Ribbon Originals (116232), Linen Thread (104199)
Accessories: 5/16" Neutrals Jumbo Brads (112534), Flower Fusion (110720) for the Old Olive felt flower in the center of my die-cut daisies!
Tools: Big Shot (113439), Flower Daisies #2 Bigz die (114520), Paper-Piercing (116631), Mat Pak (105826)
Essentials: Medium Whisper White Square Envelopes (107289) to send this card, I'll need a square envelope and the SU Whisper White square envelopes are the perfect size!
Finished Size: 5" square

Wonderful Friend Card

This card was so fun to make since I love the colors: Old Olive, Certainly Celery, and Not Quite Navy! To get the butterfly to 'Pop' I first stamped it in Not Quite Navy ink on Very Vanilla Cardstock. Then using my Paper Snips, I very carefully trimmed out the butterfly! The sharp and precise blade of the scissors is truly the best for cutting out stamped images! To adhere it on the card and to give it a 3D look, I used Stampin' Dimensionals! Then I used my Paper Piercing tool and template to punch holes in a straight line at the bottom of the card!

Stamps: Priceless (115052), Wonderful Favorites (115114)
Card Stock: Old Olive (100702), Certainly Celery (105125), Not Quite Navy (101722), Very Vanilla (101650)
Ink: Old Olive (102277), Not Quite Navy (103008), Certainly Celery (105217)
Punch: Designer Label (107590) fits perfectly inside the Styled Vanilla Hodpodge Raised Dots Designer Holder (112454)
Ribbon: Very Vanilla 1/4" Grosgrain (109026) this ribbon is a tremendous deal since you get 15 yards for only $4.95 PLUS it matches your ink and cardstock! Love it!
Tools: Paper Piercing Tool (116631), Mat Pak (105826), Paper Snips (103579)
Essentials: Stampin' Dimensionals (104430)
